Hi everyone!

I have decided to drop my PhD, but my supervisor wants me to work on a project for which he will give me a letter of employment as a research assistant. Since I will not have a Study Permit anymore, I would like to know if university research assistant is a job on which I can apply for work permit?
I'm doing my PhD at Université de Montréal, Quebec.

Thank you!

Other than International Agreements such as NAFTA, there is no specific list of occupations eligible for work permits. You can theoretically obtain a work permit for a Research Assistant Position, but this would likely entail approval of a Labour Market Impact Assessment application by the prospective employer.
